JCAC Announces Arts Relief Grants

The Jersey City Arts Council (JCAC) is proud to announce their collaboration with Mayor Fulop, the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation, and the JC Office of Cultural Affairs in presenting $250,000 of emergency arts funding.

In mid May, the Jersey City Arts Council met with Mayor Fulop and Christine Goodman, Director of Cultural Affairs, to discuss both the short and long term need for arts funding in Jersey City. Following that meeting, Mayor Fulop announced the dedication of relief funds to support the arts in Jersey City. The announcement was made on a weekly public arts community call, hosted by the JCAC, Jersey City’s Office of Cultural Affairs, and NJCU’s Center for the Arts.

Heather Warfel Sandler, Chair of the JCAC said, “This level of dedicated financial support of the arts is unprecedented in Jersey City, and we are hopeful that this is the beginning of an ongoing effort to better support Jersey City artists and arts organizations. Think of how we have all turned to music, movies, creative hobbies during these past months. The arts consistently have a profound effect on community, economy, and individual well-being, all of which are crucial in times of crisis. ”

The JCAC will oversee $100,000 of relief grants up to $3,000 for professional arts organizations, groups, businesses, and individual artists who have suffered financial loss due to the Covid-19 shutdown.

The JCEDC will oversee $150,000 for Arts Programming, which will provide grants up to $15,000 for arts organizations to develop and implement visual and performing arts programming in Jersey City. Other relief grants can also be found on the EDC site.
