New Exhibit: Breaking Patterns at the Art150 Gallery
The artists of Art150 and the artists of Elevator announce a new exhibit in the Art150 Gallery:
Breaking Patterns

In nature, patterns create balance where life is otherwise chaotic and unpredictable. Although we can identify patterns in looking at art and in our own lives, they are not necessarily uniform and can be broken by irregularity. Breaking Patterns is a group exhibition at the ART150 Gallery at 150 Bay Street in Jersey City, NJ, featuring artists from Elevator and ART150. Participating artists have explored various interpretations of patterns through painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, fiber, and more in this diverse and harmonious show.
Join us for an opening reception on February 2nd, from 6-9 pm, to view the artwork, meet the artists, and enjoy some light refreshments - all open to the public and free of charge.

About the Curators:
Ben Fine is a multidisciplinary visual artist who works in animation, film, comics, and painting. Fine comes from a family of artists; his mother is a sculptor, his sister is a painter, and his great Aunt, Rose Fried, was a pioneering female gallery owner of the Pinacoteca Gallery in New York who gave Alice Neel a solo exhibition in 1944 (a major influence of Fine’s). In his late 20s, Fine lived and painted in Guanajuato, Mexico, and had his first solo exhibit at El Museo Iconográfico del Quijote. He returned to Brooklyn and co-founded Studio Iodyne, an animation and design house pioneering the convergence of 2D and traditional stop-motion techniques. In 2020 Fine returned to painting full-time and created a series of ten portraits entitled the #pinkarmchairportraits. He is currently devoting 2023 to a series of abstract paintings.
Josh Urso is a contemporary sculptor in Jersey City, NJ, working in concrete, stone, and various pigments. He studied engineering and product design at Carnegie Mellon University and owned and operated Josh Urso Design, a furniture and lighting design business, for over 20 years before pursuing sculpture full-time. His background in producing functional objects and his familiarity with manufacturing processes instilled in him a love of materials and a drive to explore purely sculptural forms. His work is inspired by the natural world, the inherent qualities of materials, and his desire to create monumental forms. He has always been intrigued by breaking the geometric form with the fluid line. Josh has had a love of materials since college and a desire to explore purely sculptural forms. The concrete pieces represent a fascination with process and the immediacy of cast concrete but also a wanting to create monumental forms out of commonplace materials.

Elevator is a multidisciplinary hub for creative professionals working in diverse fields. It is located at 135 Erie Street, Jersey City NJ 07302. The facility includes JC Print Room, a printmaking studio that hosts workshops and figure drawing sessions open to the public.
