Backroom Broadsides: Poetry and Spoken Word

Starting with an open mic for all reader (5 min each), we will then host two guest readers: Joel Allegretti and Lynne DeSilva-Johnson. Open mic sign-up starts at 7:30pm.

Joel Allegretti is the author of five collections of poetry: the latest is The Body in Equipoise (2015). He is the editor of Rabbit Ears: TV Poems, the first anthology of poetry about the mass medium (NYQ Books, 2015). Allegretti’s poems have appeared in Smartish Pace, PANK, The New York Quarterly, Maintenant: A Journal of Contemporary Dada Writing & Art, MARGIE, Fulcrum and many other national journals, as well as in journals published in Canada, the United Kingdom, Belgium and India.

Lynne DeSilva-Johnson is a nonbinary artist and scholar working in performance, text, installation, and publication. She strives to make, facilitate, document, and archive radical, experimental work and process material across genres; in 2012 she founded the arts organization and press, The Operating System, in service of this mission. She is the author of GROUND, blood atlas, and Overview Effect, co-author of A GUN SHOW with Adam Sliwinski/Sō Percussion, and co-editor of the anthologies RESIST MUCH, OBEY LITTLE: Inaugural Poems for the Resistance, and In Corpore Sano: Creative Practice and the Challenged Body. Lynne is also a visiting assistant professor at Pratt, Libraries Editor at Boog City, and a maker of zines and art books, most recently “Progeny Restoration Corporation.” She has recently been featured at La MaMa, Parkside Lounge, Bowery Poetry, VON, Artists Space, Howl Happening, Hell Phone, Unnameable Books, and the Sidewalk Cafe.[%7B%22surface%22%3A%22page%22%2C%22mechanism%22%3A%22main_list%22%2C%22extra_data%22%3A%22%7B%5C%22page_id%5C%22%3A312759947408%2C%5C%22tour_id%5C%22%3Anull%7D%22%7D]%2C%22has_source%22%3Atrue%7D
